Driver Development Training and Assessment

Cambridgeshire County Council adopt the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) for all its minibus drivers.

For some years Cambridgeshire County Council Social Services have used the MiDAS scheme as a standard for its accessible minibus drivers. The training not only covers driving skills but the skills required in the handling, securing of wheelchairs and the safe operation of the passenger lifts fitted to the buses.

As from April 2002 the drivers of standard or accessible minibuses will be required (as their present driving permits expire) to undertake MiDAS training . It is envisaged that in excess of 1500 drivers will receive this comprehensive training over a four year period.

On the 24th April 2002 13/Fifty Driver Development was awarded the contract to undertake this area of Safety Training. 13/Fifty has always prided itself on the ability to carry out specialist training, fitting in with our customers requirements. The first to undertake the training will be John Butler who coincidently was the first to be involved in the councils'
Defensive Driving contract
which is also operated by 13/Fifty. The ability of 13/Fifty to quickly adapt has allowed other specialist training schemes to evolve, allowing it and Cambridgeshire Council to offer tailored training schemes to its employees.
