13/Fifty Driver Development. Driver Training and Assessment
Cambridgeshire County Council Defensive Driver Training
A comprehensive review of risk management of employees driving at work on the council's business was undertaken during 1999 -2000. The review highlighted areas that needed to be addressed to effectively manage the council's and individual employee's exposure to risk.
As a result of this review members of the Driver Training Trade Association (The F.D.T.A.) were invited to tender for a three year contract to provide Assessment/Defensive Driver Training.
September saw the start of the training of council staff traveling between 6000 and 15000 miles annually using their own vehicles. Drivers covering lower mileages will receive training in years two and three.
It is envisaged that all drivers will undertake this assessment/training in three year cycles
