NATIONAL TRAINING AWARD WIN FOR COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

MiDAS – the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme which is managed by the Community Transport Association across the UK - has won a National Training Award.  David Gower, the former England cricket team captain, presented Ian Mottershead, the CTA’s MiDAS Co-ordinator, with the award at a ceremony in Manchester Town Hall on Wednesday October 15, 2003.

The CTA provides the scheme, which was originally developed by Hampshire County Council, to community transport operators, local authorities and other small vehicle operators. Over 80,000, drivers’ certificates have been issued in under eight years since the scheme received its UK launch.

Jenny Meadows, the CTA’s Director, said:

“This prestigious award independently recognises the quality of the training provided under MiDAS and will secure its place as the most appropriate training and assessment programme for drivers of small passenger vehicles in this sector.”

National Training Awards are organised by UK Skills, an independent organisation that champions skills and learning for work through competitions, awards and events. There were over 1,000 entries for the 2003 competition and there will be approximately 70 winners of the award.

Ends.
